My journey to counseling started when I was an academic advisor at UT Austin. I often worked with young adults navigating professional and personal crises, and wanted to give them more in-depth mental health support.
I completed graduate school at St. Edward's University, and began my second career as a licensed professional counselor in 2016. After working as a grief counselor, suicide hotline supervisor, and community agency therapist, I discovered my passion was supporting people through grief and loss (especially suicide loss), anxiety, career transitions, depression, trauma, and self-esteem issues.
People bring their whole selves to counseling and it's important to understand all their personal, spiritual, and cultural concerns. As a very nerdy learner, I love the frequent opportunities to gain knowledge and expertise in this field. If you say you know everything as a therapist, you know nothing. This is a profession that requires constant growth. It also requires an attitude of curiosity and openness that I bring to both life and sessions.
Personal Note: I'm divorced, a mom, have lived in Austin since 1997, and my hobbies are eating my way through the city with friends (top three restaurant recs: Intero, The Peached Tortilla, Bouldin Creek Cafe); living at Alamo Drafthouse; worshipping my two cats; doing yoga (hot and not); and writing short stories for self-care. Most importantly, I've also been a therapy client. I've survived trauma too and can join with you in holding your story as you tell it for healing.
